چکیده

Direct experimental evidence of half-metallic density of states (DOS) is observed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy on ferromagnetic La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, which exhibits colossal magnetoresistance (CMR). Tunneling conductance data taken at 77 K, well below the Curie temperature TC ø 260 K, show close resemblance to the spin-split DOS spectrum calculated for the itinerant bands in the ferromagnetic state. The half-metallic spectral characteristics are absent in the paramagnetic state at room temperature, as well as in the undoped antiferromagnetic compound LaMnO3, which shows no CMR. These results directly implicate the half-metallic ferromagnetism in the phenomenon of CMR. [S0031-9007(97)04788-1]

Tunneling evidence of half-metallicity in epitaxial films of ferromagnetic perovskite manganites and ferrimagnetic magnetite

Direct evidence of half-metallic density of states is observed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy of ferromagnetic La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 and La12xSrxMnO3 (x50.3, 0.33) epitaxial films which exhibit colossal magnetoresistance ~CMR!. At 77 K, well below the Curie temperatures, the normalized tunneling conductance (dI/dV)/^I/V& for all samples exhibits similar pronounced peak structures, consistent with ...

Ferromagnet-Insulator-Ferromagnet Tunneling with One Half-Metallic Electrode

Ferromagnet-insulator-Ferromagnet (FM-I-FM) tunnel junctions were prepared with one ferromagnet being NiMnSb, a compound predicted by deGroot et al. to be half-metallic. X-ray diffraction and Rutherford back scattering experiments indicated that the deposited NiMnSb exhibited the desired structure and composition. However, a junction magnetoresistance (JMR) of only 1.5% at room temperature and ...

Tunneling spectroscopy study of spin-polarized quasiparticle injection effects in cuprate/manganite heterostructures

Scanning tunneling spectroscopy was performed at 4.2 K on epitaxial thin-film heterostructures comprising YBa2Cu3O72d and La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, to study the microscopic effects of spin-polarized quasiparticle injection from the half-metallic ferromagnetic manganite on the high Tc cuprate superconductor. The quasiparticle tunneling characteristics observed were consistent with d-wave pairing symmetry,...

Half-metallic ferromagnetism and structural stability of zincblende phases of the transition-metal chalcogenides.

An accurate density-functional method is used to study systematically half-metallic ferromagnetism and stability of zincblende phases of 3d-transition-metal chalcogenides. The zincblende CrTe, CrSe, and VTe phases are found to be excellent half-metallic ferromagnets with large half-metallic gaps (up to 0.88 eV). They are mechanically stable and approximately 0.31-0.53 eV per formula unit higher...

Unusual ferromagnetism enhancement in ferromagnetically optimal manganite La0.7−yCa0.3+yMn1−yRuyO3 (0≤y<0.3): the role of Mn-Ru t2g super-exchange

The eg-orbital double-exchange mechanism as the core of physics of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) manganites is well known, which usually covers up the role of super-exchange at the t2g-orbitals. The role of the double-exchange mechanism is maximized in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, leading to the concurrent metal-insulator transition and ferromagnetic transition as well as CMR effect. In this work, by a s...
